Ameriprise Financial Introduces Active Diversified Portfolios(SM)

Ameriprise Financial, Inc. (NYSE: AMP), has introduced the Active DiversifiedPortfoliosSM series, new investment solutions designed to help individuals achieve risk-managed growth through easy-to-use, professionally managed portfolios. Using the sophisticated approach to dynamic asset allocation, fund manager research and selection process of Wilshire Associates Incorporated, a leading global investment services and consulting firm, Active Diversified Portfolios investments are designed to provide broad diversification and a depth of knowledge in portfolio management much like the process used by large institutional investors. Active Diversified Portfolios investments are discretionary mutual fund wrap accounts that provide a range of portfolio options to match investors specific needs, including six risk profiles and two tax treatments.*

As individual investors seek to grow their assets in todays complex market environment, its important for them to find accessible, advice-embedded investment approaches that fit their unique financial and personal needs, said Sarah McKenzie, Senior Vice President of Brokerage and Managed Products at Ameriprise Financial. While no one can control the market, people can help control the impact of volatility on their long-term goals with the help of a financial advisor, a dedicated investment team and institutional-caliber solutions such as Active Diversified Portfolios.

The Active Diversified Portfolios series is part of Active Portfolios investments, a family of professionally managed solutions that provide sophisticated investment alternatives for accumulation or income needs. As of Sept. 30, 2008, Active Portfolios investments had more than $3.2 billion in assets since its launch in Feb. 2007 with Active Accumulation Portfolios® and Active Income Portfolios® investments. The addition of the Active Diversified Portfolios series gives investors access to Wilshire Associates distinct blend of qualitative and quantitative analysis, and their innovative approach of dynamic asset allocation, investment research and portfolio construction. The forward-thinking investment professionals at Wilshire® view and assess the market and act on opportunities based on their insights into the asset allocation strategies of institutional investors. Wilshire constructs the portfolios to provide broad exposure to asset classes and investment styles using fund managers they believe are capable of delivering consistent, risk-adjusted performance over time.

The portfolios harness the potential of the market while seeking to manage risk through regular reallocation. Designed to simplify portfolio selection, Active Diversified Portfolios investments provide strategic target allocations based on six straightforward risk profiles:

> Conservative: 20 percent U.S. and foreign equities and 80 percent fixed income and cash.

> Moderate Conservative: 35 percent U.S. and foreign equities and 65 percent fixed income and cash.

> Moderate: 50 percent U.S. and foreign equities and 50 percent fixed income and cash.

> Moderate Aggressive: 65 percent U.S. and foreign equities and 35 percent fixed income and cash.

> Aggressive: 80 percent U.S. and foreign equities and 20 percent fixed income and cash.

> All Equity: 100 percent U.S. and foreign equities.

In addition to the range of risk profiles, each core portfolio is available in a tax-sensitive* version that includes tax-exempt mutual funds and may include equity mutual funds with lower turnover rates when appropriate.

Making recommendations from among the risk profiles and tax treatments,* financial advisors help investors select an appropriate portfolio matched to their goals, risk tolerance, tax situation, resources and specific needs, and explain how it fits into their overall financial picture whether as a core investment or an addition to other holdings.
