Artiste House CEO Takes Stand Against Free Labor for Black-Owned Businesses

By: PRLog

Indya "Icy" Wright refuses to perpetuate the harmful stereotypes that black labor lacks value

WASHINGTON - March 31, 2023 - PRLog -- Indya "Icy" Wright, Founder and CEO of Artiste House, a leading black-owned PR firm based in Washington DC, has released an official statement regarding how black businesses are frequently demanded to justify why they are deserving of fair compensation.

Artiste House has gained recognition for its ability to deliver impressive results, garnering over 3 billion impressions for clients. However, despite the company's success, Wright has taken a public stance against the detrimental stereotype that black labor lacks value by releasing the following statement:

"Effective immediately, Artiste House will not conduct business with anyone who asks us for free work or favors. This policy is not just about protecting our own interests, but it's also about fighting against the harmful stereotype that black toil is not valuable. Supporting black-owned businesses means investing in our community and helping to close the wealth gap by being a patron of black brands, not exploiting us for free labor. We believe in the importance of investing in black-owned businesses, and we hope that our policy will inspire others to advocate for themselves & do the same."

Artiste House was founded by Indya "Icy" Wright to fight for representation in the creative economy, bring awareness to underrepresented projects, and mobilize the media to amplify issues that directly affect her community. Past projects include garnering over 1.4 Billion media impressions protecting the narrative of the 40 creatives of color behind The Lion King on Clubhouse performances and over 1.6 Billion impressions for Sankofa.org, Gina and Harry Belafonte's Social Justice organization.

When asked about how her statement may be received, Founder, Indya "Icy" Wright adds, "Anyone that objects to us advocating for fair wages for marginalized communities is not for us. Black-owned businesses are valuable assets to our communities and our economy. At Artiste House, we believe that promoting representation, equality and diversity in the entertainment and creative communities is crucial. We are more than just a PR firm – we are on a mission to ensure that everyone's voice is heard, we are committed to positive change, and we are committed to working with clients who share our values and support our mission."
