The acclaimed author, Marlene Burling, discusses the experience of having her devotionals get positive feedback from credible book review boards. She appeared with a famous TV personality and broadcaster Ric Bratton of This Week in America, to talk about her highly acclaimed book, A Daily Walk with God. A page-turner to her number of readers and handpicked for her originality, heart-pumping words, and a smart sprinkling of soul advice, her books surely be an addition to every person’s reading pile.
A Daily Walk of God is a book that features simple everyday experiences, objects, and Bible stories, and written spiritual applications for daily encouragement. Burling said she wanted to impart the soul learnings she gained over the years as part of the healing in her grieving process after the loss of her husband, Pastor James Autry, the love of her life for fifty-one years. She said that walking every morning and talking to God every day boosted her drive and her thoughts to write the story she wanted to tell. “Both of my books are very similar, as far as the set-up and content, along with prayers in each page. It is straight–to-the-point, short, and devotional”, she said. Her book will bring that early morning gratitude that we need to get inspired at the beginning of the day.
Let’s face it: Grief is unpredictable. Whether it’s been a few weeks or several years since you lost a loved one, the shock of their passing can feel as poignant and all-consuming as if it happened just yesterday. For the author, the feeling is inevitable; as she assumed taking care of her ailing husband and his parents. “You can be bitter at God. But I literally pray that God would not make me feel bitter. The Lord is leading me to be better, not bitter”.
“I want these books to be an encouragement, things that are written in my books are practical things people can relate to. But I want the readers to see that we have an awesome God. That no matter what we are going through, God loves you,“she said.
As the interview progresses, Burling hinted to do more walkings with God while writing her thoughts in her future book project, she said she might call it “Breaking through the Clouds.”
Burling inspires more people with her devotional books and urges everyone to see the goodness of God even in the smallest details. She was married for fifty-one years to Pastor James Autry, and she faithfully served the Lord by his side in the four churches where God called them to serve. She has three married children, ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
