Hundreds of students expected to attend the UNCF (United Negro College Fund) Empower Me Tour
FORT WORTH, Texas - Sept. 14, 2018 - PRLog -- Hundreds of Fort Worth high school graduating seniors will be given the opportunity to apply for thousands of dollars in scholarships on Friday, September 28that Tarrant County College (Trinity River Campus / 8:30 a.m.) during the UNCF (United Negro College Fund) Empower Me Tour (EMT). EMT is a free, traveling college-and-career-readiness roadshow that provides a platform for high school students to earn on-site scholarships and admission to the nation's top historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs).

UNCF is the largest scholarship provider to students of color, awarding $100 million annually in HBCU scholarships to more than 10,000 students across the country. "I started applying for scholarships my senior year," says Elizabeth Spears, Fort Worth native and sophomore at Dillard University. Spears, a varsity basketball star, tore her ACL her senior year, then shifted her career focus to help others. She knew her college tuition would put a huge financial burden on her parents. "All of my sisters and brothers were in college and grad school," she says.  "Receiving a $5,000 scholarship from UNCF put me in better standing, it cleared me for my first year and I was able to get college started off on a good note," adds the public health major.  UNCF seeks to serve and extend scholarship opportunities to more high school seniors from Fort Worth, just like Elizabeth through EMT.

"As the program's founding sponsor, we are tremendously proud of how far EMT has come over the past 10 years. Our team members across the country are looking forward to another year of supporting thousands of deserving students in their pursuit of higher education through volunteerism and mentoring," says Jimmie Paschall, Executive Vice President, Enterprise Diversity & Inclusion and Strategic Philanthropy at Wells Fargo.  Through partnerships with Fort Worth, and surrounding area, school districts, parents, national sponsors Wells Fargo, Target, P&G and FedEx, and local sponsors, EMT offers access to information and recruiters from HBCUs, college prep workshops, dynamic presenters, and award-winning educational experts. Students will have an opportunity to apply for college admission, financial aid and scholarships including the EMT Merit Scholarship, presented in partnership with Target on the spot.

Fort Worth is the first of five stops on the EMT tour. Other cities include Cincinnati, OH; Milwaukee, WI; Chicago, IL; Los Angeles, CA and Atlanta, GA. For more information, visit: www.EmpowerMeTour.org. You can follow the tour on social media @UNCF  #EmpowerMeTour.
