Chevron Supports the Alaska Run for Women's 26th Annual Race

By: PRLog
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - June 7, 2018 - PRLog -- The locally-owned and operated Denali Express Chevron Network is a long-time supporter of the Alaska Run for Women. They have a history of contributing to the race for over 20 years! Chevron is involved in the race again this Saturday, June 9th. The community reflects on Chevron's commitment to supporting the race and other breast cancer research and awareness efforts throughout Anchorage.

From race day through October, Chevron sells private label pink ribbon water bottles in their stores to raise money for the Alaska Run for Women to help fund breast cancer research and to build awareness. This year, as they do every year, Chevron contributed almost $20,000, putting them in the race's Pink Dimond sponsorship category, reserved exclusively for sponsors who contribute $10,000 or more.

"Chevron has been engaged in community service programs from the get-go," says Michelle Engelke, representing the Denali Express Chevron Network, "We look for programs that have the most impact, especially those that allow us to joint venture with the community so that we can have a bigger impact, together. Alaska Run for Women is one of those programs."

On race day, Chevron staff will be distributing water bottles at the finish line to racers from their tent at in-field. The staff can be recognized by their white shirts with the Chevron logo and the phrase "human energy."

Karla Kolash sits on the Board of the Alaska Run for Women as the Donor Chair. Commenting on Chevron's faithful support, she says, "Chevron has been with us for a very long time, and they play a very critical role in our battle to end cancer. They are a very special donor for us. Not only have they been a long-term supporter, but they are committed to being involved in the local community. When they are there handing out the bottles on race day, they are really moving to make sure they get the bottles to every survivor and racer who wants one."

Courtnee VanOrd is a Community Manager for the Alaska Chapter of the American Cancer Society, which puts on the Making Strides of Anchorage walk each year. "Chevron has always been so supportive of everything we need, always willing to jump on board," VanOrd says, commenting on Chevron's support of breast cancer research and awareness in Alaska at large, "In addition, they have gone above and beyond supporting the cause by raising awareness themselves through selling water bottles in their stores!"

Today, the Alaska Run for Women is one of the five largest all-women runs in the country, with over 5,000 participants and over 10,000 people at the race including volunteers and family. "The race has been around for a long time," Engelke says, "At this point, it has a following--There are folks in Alaska who wouldn't miss it for anything. We wouldn't either. The race is a way for survivors and those who have lost loved ones to say, 'We're going to beat this together.'"

"I speak on behalf of the race when I say that we feel very fortunate and humbled to have a dedicated donor like Chevron," says Kolash, "The battle is not won, but donors like Chevron play a vital role in making a difference in the lives of women in Alaska."
