This is Bailey’s fourth book overall. This latest work, which was released on Dec. 29, 2015 by Broadview Press, explores such timely issues as Islamophobia and immigration, wealth and poverty, black lives matter(ing), mass incarceration, voting rights, gendered discrimination and more.
Bailey describes this project as “prayerful, methodical and purposed for a broad/general audience. It pushed me emotionally and academically.” He further notes, “In some senses this is a love letter. It is an introspective journal (of sorts) that shows the world how it feels to love something so much and yet constantly be disappointed by the beloved. These are intellectual and even ethical mirror-moments that force our nation to see what are the scars of love, the misgivings of complacency, the hunger pangs of neglect … (This book) is a last-ditch effort to throw out a lifeline and keep my relationship with this country I love strong.”
He further notes, “When Eric Garner died in police custody on a New York street in July [of 2014], I was immediately purposed to write my thoughts about my complicated love with America. The reward is in the interaction.”
Racial Realities and Post-Racial Dreams: The Age of Obama and Beyond has received great reviews to date. Julius Bailey, PhD, a Christian Existentialist, teaches in the Department of Philosophy at Wittenberg University. He is a philosopher, cultural critic, social theorist, and diversity lecturer.
