The key, Houtz explained, is to not to wait for candidates to come to you.

Another important tip that he shared is to look at in-house candidates first. Especially for management positions, it is often best to promote or move existing members of your organization up the ladder. Not only will they already be familiar with your business, they will have already earned the trust of your team, according to Houtz.

The final piece of advice he offered in his speech was to be known for being a great place to work. By far the greatest recruitment tool in an employer’s arsenal is to simply be a great employer. If your employees wake up each morning excited to come into work, your office will quickly become known as a desirable place to develop a career. This, in turn, will help to attract top talent to your organization.
