On October 6, 2013, Dr. Michael Groher and Dr. Michael Crary will be training participants in the Surface Electromyography Biofeedback (sEMG) procedure, a hands-on application to treat swallowing disorders. This event will be held at the Raleigh Marriott City Center located at 500 Fayetteville St., Raleigh, NC 27601. The event is sponsored by ProCourseCEUs.com and hosted by Carolina Speech Pathology.

This program provides an opportunity to develop an understanding of the use of surface electromyography (sEMG) biofeedback to assist in the learning of new swallowing techniques for patients with dysphagia.

The sEMG program is available and offered for .7 CEUs (Intermediate Level, Professional Area).

Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:
- Determine the theoretical constructs of using sEMG as a treatment modality for dysphagia
- Apply published outcomes about the sEMG signal and treatment interventions as rationals for the hands-on experience.
- To get formal instruction and practice using sEMG units; either the Pathway 15 or the Pathway 25 by Prometheus Group.

“Using surface electromyography (sEMG) biofeedback to teach swallowing exercises is an excellent way to make the maneuvers seem less abstract to patients. This course will provide clinicians with the knowledge and hands-on training they need to work this into their treatment program.” Commented Selena Reece, MS, CCC-SLP, Director of Education Resources at Carolina Speech Pathology, LLC.
