Blackbeard's Treasure Never Lost According To Southern Novelist

By: PRLog
PR Log - Sep 27, 2012 - Bremen, Georgia – Thirteenth Colony Publications announced Georgia native, David McGukin's first novel, Trove. The story follows widow Luna Belle Black and her struggle to find her place in the life once provided by her husband, Federal Judge Moses Black, heir to Blackbeard's three hundred year old estate. Trove takes place in the coastal region of Georgia, known for its rich history, character and natural beauty. The 406 page paperback is available from Amazon/Bookstores, $16.99, and for Kindle/Nook readers, $7.99.

"Blackbeard's treasure intrigued me because of his unique history in the Southeast.” McGukin said. “Plus, no one has ever found his stash.” The fictional Cowbell Island in the book was inspired by McGukin's love for the area. A research trip along Georgia's coast ended when McGukin turned east from Midway and looked out across St. Catherine's Sound. “It just seemed to be the perfect place for the story to unfold. I could easily imagine this mysterious island with exquisite architecture tucked away along the Georgia coastline."

The novel, which exposes the immense treasury of 18th century pirate, Edward “Blackbeard” Teach, is an artfully woven mixture of Southern comedy, tragedy, and love. In the story, the flamboyant Luna Belle finds herself unprepared to deal with greedy relatives, an ancient curse, and the battles mounting against her on Cowbell Island. The plot unravels as a coming-of-age adventure for the sixty-five year old jaded socialite, but hinges on the vast multi-generational wealth and those that have come under its powerful spell.

David McGukin's experiences as an architectural and interior designer, as well as a classically trained opera singer have only added to his unique style of visual and dramatic storytelling. “I've written most of my life, just never shared it with anyone.” McGukin said. “Of all the twists and turns I've taken professionally, writing Trove has captured my interest more than any other, and has been the most fun I've ever had.”
