Rocky recovery obscures retail results

To use the old cliché, retailers’ sales results for May were a “mixed bag,” with the usual suspects like weather and the shifting of a holiday on the calendar taking the blame for weakness. And it may still be a while yet before the performance of the retail sector gives us telling clues about the direction of the U.S. eocnomy.
