Implant Nuts and Bolts
A dental implant is an artificial tooth replacement that simulates both the root and crown of your lost tooth so it functions exactly as your own tooth did! The dental implant itself comes in two sections; a biocompatible implant post (like a titanium screw) that is surgically placed into the jawbone as fusion takes place, typically several months.
Next, the implant post is completed with a tooth restoration after the implant fuses properly with your jawbone. Because it acts as a tooth root, the post securely anchors your new tooth into your jawbone, just like your natural teeth. Then, your tooth restoration completes the tooth and is the part you and everyone else can see as it sits above the gum line. Your restoration can be a custom-designed and fitted dental crown, a dental bridge or an implant-supported denture if you are replacing multiple or a full dental arch. Implant-supported dentures can even be made to “snap on” or be permanently set into your mouth.
Our dentist, Dr. Paresh Patel, will evaluate your smile, including the health of your nearby teeth and gums to determine if you are a good candidate for an implant. Criteria include not having tooth decay, gum disease or poor jawbone density. You could be a good candidate for implant dentistry if you have a strong supporting jawbone structure after having lost a tooth.
Implant Supported Dentures
If you have multiple teeth that need replacing, dentures supported with dental implants are a great option. They look and function like removable dentures, with the exception of being held in place with dental implants that were surgically placed in the jawbone for ultimate stability. Unlike traditional dentures, these dentures don’t come loose, slip or fall out so you can eat, speak and smile with confidence! Your implant dentures can be made from acrylic or ceramic material depending on your unique needs.

Daily flossing and brushing at least twice each day coupled with routine dental checkups and cleanings help keep your implants and smile in great shape!
