London, United Kingdom - 10-21-2021 (PR Distribution™) -
As the first black driver in Formula 1, Sir Lewis Hamilton has been a strong advocate for the cause of supporting minority rights.
Due to his extensive work supporting human rights, he is monitoring closely the situation of the Uyghur population oppression in the north-western region of Xinjiang, China.
There are 12 million Uyghurs living in Xinjiang, among them approximately 2 million men, women and children – are detained in internment and forced labour camps that serve major global companies. In these forced labour camps, human rights are being violated and crimes such as rape and torture are committed daily.
Recently, Lewis became aware of the fact that one of the companies that exploit the situation of the Uyghurs oppression in Xinjiang is Mercedes-Benz, for which he is racing in Formula 1.
Following this discovery, Lewis strongly condemns these human rights violations. He urges Mercedes leadership to take responsibility and to cease all business with Chinese companies benefiting from the abuse happening in the forced labour camps in Xinjiang.
