Worthy Beyond Purpose Closes 2022 School Year, Brings Meditation and Mindfulness to 700 New Students in the Los Angeles Unified School District

LOS ANGELES, CA / ACCESSWIRE / July 6, 2022 / Worthy Beyond Purpose ("WBP"), a nonprofit that brings mindfulness and meditation practices to children, today announced the completion of the 2022 school year bringing meditation and mindfulness practices to 700 new students across seven schools within the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD).

WBP also builds lasting relationships with the schools by holding quarterly meditations and training for teachers and administration. Knowing the trickle-down effect, WBP is dedicated to making a lasting impact on the lives of whole communities.

WBP serves children in K-5th grade focusing on low-income and disadvantaged populations that encounter more health, social, and economic stressors.

Some highlights recorded by surveying participating students include:

• 91% of students can now correctly identify and describe the amygdala and prefrontal cortex functions, thus teaching kids where their emotions live and how to identify them.
• 88% of students have learned new tools and techniques to handle big emotions using various breathing techniques to movement with yoga, qigong, and tapping & learning to communicate effectively.
• 85% of students have learned how to listen to their bodies and feel the emotion before it erupts.
• Over half of the students reported fewer behavioral issues at school and home since starting the program.

Through mindfulness, meditation practice, and quantitative validation from the neuroscience field, WBP understands that children and youth who develop self-regulatory skills improve academically and socially. As such, this is a year-long commitment.

Following a successful end to the school year, the WBP team is in Jamaica with 80 local campers bringing two weeks of mindfulness instruction to support emotional awareness, self-belief, and empowerment to implement skills learned in the children's day-to-day challenges.

Worthy Beyond Purpose plans to return its year-long program to LAUSD schools later this year. By impacting the lives of 700 children in the 2022 school year, WBP is looking to reach more with plans to train more people, connect with more schools/kids programs and create a scalable and turn-key model for any school.
