FOR
INVESTORS REAL ESTATE TRUST RETIREMENT PLAN
This is a
summary of the annual report for the IRET Properties 401(k) Plan (EIN:
91-1764859, Plan Number 001) for the period of January 1, 2008 through December
31, 2008. The annual report has been filed with the Internal Revenue
Service, as required under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974
(ERISA).
BASIC
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
The
benefits under this plan are provided by a Trustee. The Trustee is
First Western Bank & Trust.
Plan
expenses were $53,469.99. These expenses included $0.00 in Administrative and
Trustee charges, and $53,469.99 in benefits paid to participants and
beneficiaries. A total of 95 persons were participants in or
beneficiaries of the Plan at the end of the Plan year.
The value
of Plan Assets, after subtracting liabilities of the Plan was $3,853,970.64 as
of December 31, 2008, compared to $3,314,607.48 as of January 1,
2008. During the Plan year, the Plan experienced an increase
(decrease) in its net assets of $539,363.16. This increase includes
unrealized appreciation (or depreciation) in the value of Plan assets of
($189,973.35); that is, the difference between the value of the Plan's assets at
the end of the year, and the value of the assets at the beginning of the year,
or the cost of assets acquired during the year. The Plan had total
income of $782,806.50 including employee contributions of $281,943.92, rollover
contributions of $1,042.24 and employer contributions of $349,678.23, gains
(losses) of ($50,954.97) from the sale of assets, and earnings from investments
of $201,097.08.
