Hi, I’m Bob Kelly. I’m sure you’re aware of today’s exciting announcement about our agreement to create an extraordinarily powerful growth company through a merger with The Bank of New York.

Several months ago, I was approached with a proposal to join forces. Following a very careful and thorough analysis, we are convinced that this deal produces a winning outcome for shareholders, clients and employees of the two companies. And also for Pittsburgh.

Combined, we will be the undisputed global leader in asset servicing with more than $16 trillion under custody and administration, and we will rank among the top 10 asset managers with over $1 trillion in assets under management.

We will continue to have a very significant commitment to Pittsburgh. Although we will technically move the official headquarters to New York City, the Pittsburgh region will be home to several very important businesses, as well as a center of excellence for technology, operations and administration.

As a result of this, we expect to have a strong and growing employee presence in Pittsburgh. In fact, we will be creating between 1,000 to 2,000 jobs in Pittsburgh over the next three to five years. And, we will maintain our shared services groups here. It is the best place for them to be located.

While we aim to complete the transaction this July, the integration process is planned over three years. A dedicated integration team, which Steve Elliott will co-lead, will take a thoughtful, deliberate and paced approach to merge our companies, our businesses, our systems and our employees.

For the rest of us, it’s business as usual. Our clients expect – and deserve – the same enthusiasm and the excellent service that you’ve been providing all along. I am confident that you will deliver on this promise to ensure that we lose no customers.

And, while I know from my own experiences over the years that many of you have questions about how this personally affects you, I ask you to focus on three things:

1. Continue your dedicated focus on our customers. Let’s do everything to keep our eye on the ball and maintain the best customer service in the world.

2. Be positive about the opportunities that this merger brings to us. The new company will be able to invest and expand better than any of our competitors due to its combined scale and profitability.

3. Be proud of Mellon’s history and the success that you’ve helped to create, and look forward to an even stronger, more viable organization from which we can all grow.

In return, I commit to inform you quickly of decisions as they are made. You will be hearing from me early and often.

Today marks the beginning of one of the most compelling financial services transactions ever. And I mean that very seriously.

I am very excited about our future together. I hope you are, too. Thank you.
