"Girlz 'N the Hood: A Memoir of Mama in South Central Los Angeles"
Los Angeles - You may think you know about the ghetto from movies like "Boyz 'N the Hood." But that's only part of the story.
Find out how the other half lives in "Girlz 'N the Hood: A Memoir of Mama in South Central Los Angeles," coming from the Pact Press in September 2021.
Author Mary Hill-Wagner has produced a warm, witty, and hilarious memoir that Poet Nikki Giovanni calls a "critical piece of L.A. history."
The family soldiers on despite a house fire, periods of
homelessness, a neighborhood spree killer, and seven dead
beat dads.
Sarah Gordon is the stalwart matriarch of the family who
teaches her brood of 11 children to "love hard" and protect the weak.
Praise for Girlz 'N the Hood:
"...Girlz 'N the Hood..." is sometimes hilarious, sometimes painful, yet always centered in the reality of (the author's) early life with her mother..., and brothers and sisters
