Epidermolysis bullosa (EB) is a group of rare genetic diseases that can occur in all demographics and affects male and female infants equally. The disease is caused by an inherited gene mutation that impacts how skin proteins are formed, resulting in poor binding of the epidermis, dermis, and hypodermis. The most common symptom is fragile skin that blisters and tears easily, often leading to painful sores and an increased risk of infection.

EB is often noticed in infancy, and it can lead to other health complications. Babies with the disease are at higher risk of sepsis, which occurs when bacteria from an infection enter the bloodstream and spread throughout the body; infants may also have problems with nutrition and oral health, as blisters can form in the mouth, making eating difficult and potentially causing tooth decay. It is also not uncommon for children to be born with contractures or fused fingers or toes - both of which can affect joint function and mobility. Finally, the most severe forms of the disease can be fatal for infants if specialized medical care is not provided in a timely fashion.

It is not possible to prevent EB, and there is currently no known cure for the disease. However, No Baby Blisters is committed to providing immediate life-saving care to affected infants and their families. All proceeds from the organization’s fundraising campaigns go toward medical supplies, nutritional support, and care for secondary health conditions, including infections and tumors; donations are also used to purchase comfort items and offer financial support to the families who are unable to afford treatment or caregiving requirements.
