University of Utah Announces Grand Opening of the New Research Building at the Nora Eccles Harrison Cardiovascular Research and Training Institute

Salt Lake City, UT – President Taylor R. Randall, Dr. Michael L. Good, and Dr. Robin M. Shaw are proud to announce the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new research building at the Nora Eccles Harrison Cardiovascular Research and Training Institute (CVRTI). The University of Utah invites the community to join in the celebration of this significant milestone in the advancement of cardiovascular research.

The CVRTI, a beacon of innovation for over fifty years, commemorates the launch of its new facility designed to bolster groundbreaking research and collaboration. The institute’s rich history is marked by monumental achievements in cardiac care, including the implantation of the Jarvik heart and advancements in the understanding of cardiac arrhythmias and long-QT syndrome.

The CVRTI is the largest freestanding cardiovascular research institute focusing on the study of muscle biology, electrophysiology, and vascular biology. One of the institute’s current projects is an innovative gene therapy for heart failure, poised to dramatically alter the course of treatment for patients at risk of end-stage disease. This novel therapy is expected to begin clinical trials within the next two years.

The consistent and generous backing of the Eccles family and the Nora Eccles Treadwell Foundation has been instrumental in the institute’s ability to pioneer change and save lives through medical research. This new research building stands as a symbol of their commitment to the ongoing pursuit of medical excellence.

The CVRTI’s success affirms Nora Eccles’ belief that today’s support of innovative science paves the way for the medical therapies of tomorrow.
